Why Georgia Why?

As usual, John Mayer is always inspiring with his songs. But I never thought that this song would be in one of my music-life-theme playlist. I first heard this song in 2008, I thought the lyrics was kinda weird. Georgia? Was the song is about a girl? a relationship? But after I read this, it turns out that the song was about how John went to Georgia (a state, located in southeastern United States) to pursue his early music career. He took a huge chance in order to be successful. When he first arrived there, he questioned his decisions so frequently, was he living his life right? and one day he was tempted to just walk away and forget everything in Georgia behind. And when someone in doubt, anything could seems so wrong.

“..Cause I wonder sometimes
About the outcome
Of a still verdictless life.
Am I living it right? …”

(red. verdictless life: a life with no meaning)

We’re clearly on our own, trying to comfort ourselves by tidying up the room or making it feels nicer, but the loneliness and confusion is somehow undeniable.

“…I rent a room and I fill the spaces with
Wood in places to make it feel like home
But all I feel’s alone
It might be a quarter life crisis
Or just the stirring in my soul…”

We cover up our insecurity by putting a bright smile, but actually there’s a tiny slight of hope that people would recognize that curve on our lips is a fake one.

“…So what, so I’ve got a smile on
But it’s hiding the quiet superstitions in my head
Don’t believe me
When I say I’ve got it down…”

Okay, then again, we choose our own life path. And every choices has their own consequences. Some paths are crowded, and some other paths had quite less people. Well, we know that anything could be an obstacle for our dreams, right? Including on how many people accompanying in our journey to achieve our dreams. But don’t worry, just focus on what we want in life. It’ll help very much :)

“…Everybody is just a stranger but
That’s the danger in going my own way
I guess it’s the price I have to pay
Still “everything happens for a reason”
Is no reason not to ask myself…”
